So here I am, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. It's like an episode of Supersize Me - everything and everyone are far bigger than they need to be.
The flight was very standard. However, by some random turn of events I was sat with former Labour Cabinet Minister the Rt. Hon. Liam Bryne MP, who was of course number two to Alistair Darling at the Treasury in the last government.
So what can I tell you about the man who warned David Laws in a scribbled note that "there's no money left" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/8688470.stm)? Truthfully, very little. He wears jeans to travel in and gets his reading material from the House of Commons Library (a book by Alan Greenspan). He was otherwise very pleasent company. Now he's no longer in the Government he has to slum it with the rest of us at the immigration queues instead of the jumping ahead in the 'Diplomats' line, which he didn't appear to be too used to yet.
This bodes very well for bumping into Barack Obama in a few weeks time whilst strolling down Pennsylvania Avenue - or even better Sarah Palin shooting moose in Wasila, Alaska!
Battery on my laptop is dying (left the travel adapter in my luggage) so had better dash!
Now to keep to that other plan whilst I'm over here ... I must not go to Dunkin' Donuts, I must not go to Dunkin' Donuts ...
PS. I've decided to keep a track of the things I get free because of my accent ...
Well just a couple of hours in and here we go;
- My baggage was checked into the hold at Boston airport for my flight to Maine, for free, saving me $100.
